Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is considering potential integration of blockchain technology for users of the social media platform.

The blockchain allows individuals to use various services using only one identity device without the need to rely on third party services.

CoinDesk reports, the use of blockchain for identities can be an attractive choice besides services such as Facebook Connect. Zuckerberg said in an interview with Harvard law professor Jonathan Zittrain.

There is a blockchain utilization that I am thinking about, even though I don't know how to run it, which is about authentication, or providing various different services access to our data. The aim is to replace Facebook Connect with something truly distributed". Zuckerberg said (cryptoground.com/ auth)

Zuckerberg also said that information could be received and stored in a decentralized system. Users of the system can use it to enter various services without going through an intermediary.

This will also attract the attention of developers who do not want company policies to restrict user access. But on the other hand, the company will not be able to prevent and handle if there are criminal individuals who target user data.

Facebook has experienced various problems regarding the data provided by its users. Zuckerberg said, there was a group of people who gave their data to Cambridge related services, and someone sold the data to Cambridge Analytica. As a result, Facebook has terminated the developer access to the platform.

With a distributed system, individuals are empowered. However, there are some questions about how users can really know they are giving permission for certain services. There are some challenges related to decentralization as well. The level of computing that Facebook is running at this time is very difficult to do in a distributed manner. "Running heavy computing in a decentralized manner will be difficult". Explained Zuckerberg

However, in the future resources may be available for heavy computing in distributed systems and increasing efficiency. In addition, in cases of fully distributed data hacking, no one can cut off access to rogue hackers or developers. A distributed system provides flexibility for users but on the other hand increases their responsibilities.

It's easier to take responsibility from big companies like Facebook or Google compared to a number of third-party applications. In a distributed system, there will also be more data abuse cases and the solution will be more difficult, Zuckerberg added.

Over the past few weeks, rumors have circulated about the possibility of Facebook launching a standpoint for WhatsApp users in India to increase and accelerate the market for remittances in the country.

Although Facebook does not give any comment about the news, the king of social media has expanded its blockchain office and employs talents and new employees in the blockchain field.
