Skin pigmentation abnormalities that are not contagious and usually do no harm. However this condition can be a sign of mild to severe health problems, and the pigmentation disorder is called Akantosis Nigrikans.

The folds of skin that are black, thickened, and textured like a velvet cloth are signs of the Akantosis Nigrikans. This skin area leaves a bad odor, and itches on the skin.
